Sri Lankan society is constituted with the majority Sinhala Buddhists living in harmony with many other communities of different ethnicities and religions. Buddhism which is the major religion has influenced to a greater extent the social structure in the Country with a peace loving nation living in inter communal harmony. Sri Lankan people are known internationally for standing together and helping one another unreservedly at instances of natural disasters and calamities irrespective of ethnic, religious or any other difference. In similar vein, YMBA Maharagama carries out many programmes and projects for welfare of the society at large, mainly the socially and economically underprivileged. Apart from many programmes implemented to assist cancer patients, annual blood donation campaign, heath clinics and seminars and women’s welfare projects are also carried out. In addition, many programmes to assist religious institutions, mainly Buddhist temples are also launched regularly by the dedicated members with assistance from interested sources.
